I-Share borrowing policies change on July 1
Posted by Bruce Stoffel on June 12, 2008
Several important changes to policies for materials borrowed through the I-Share service take effect July 1. These changes are intended to create uniformity in how libraries in the I-Share system lend their materials to patrons at other libraries in the system and, in turn, reduce confusion among borrowers. If you borrow materials from other Illinois academic libraries through the I-Share interlibrary loan service, these changes will impact you.
New I-Share borrowing policies
The loan period for any item you borrow from another library through the I-Share service is 4 weeks … regardless which library lends you the item.
You may renew an item you borrow through the I-Share service for additional four week periods … two times if you are an undergraduate student and four times if you are a graduate student or faculty member.
When you renew an item borrowed through the I-Share service, the loan period will now be extended from the due date rather than from the renewal date.
You may renew an item borrowed through the I-Share service even if it is overdue … unless the item has been recalled, is overdue 29 or more days, or your library account has been blocked from use of I-Share.
There is no limit on the number of interlibrary loan items you may borrow at one time.
There is no limit on the number of interlibrary loan requests you may have outstanding at one time.
Your ability to borrow materials through the I-Share service may be suspended in the following instances. These thresholds apply only to materials you borrow through I-Share, not to items borrowed from Milner Library.
You have one or more interlibrary loan items that are overdue and have been recalled by the library or libraries that own them.
You have three or more interlibrary loan items lost at one time. An interlibrary loan item is considered lost if it is 29 or more days overdue.
You have ten or more interlibrary loan items on your library account that you claim you have returned.
These new policies apply only to interlibrary loan materials borrowed through the I-Share service. They do not apply to materials borrowed through the ILLiad interlibrary loan service.
